Police Chief Matt Mansell says the home drug test kits now available can help parents monitor the activities of their teens and help teens say no to their friends who pressure them to try drugs.
Mansell said the Test My Teen kits are now available for free and he wants Pacific officials to help educate citizens on the practice of testing their teens for drug use.
Speaking at the Nov. 1 board meeting, Mansell also asked the city to post a link on the city’s webpage to direct parents to the free test kits.
Home drug test kits for parents are on the market from a variety of pharmaceutical retailers like CVS, Walgreens and Walmart. The kits also are available online through Amazon or several home health sites.
Mansell said when saying no is not enough to stop friends from pressuring teens to experiment with drugs, they can say, “my parents test me,” to assure friends that they don’t dare try.
The chief also noted that resident Mike Peterson has purchased the company, Test My Teen.
Alderman Mike Pigg said he wants to sponsor the city’s participation in the education program.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the tests indicate if one or more prescription or illegal drugs are present in urine. Tests can detect the presence of drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, opiates, methamphetamine, amphetamines, PCP, benzodiazepine, barbiturates, methadone, tricyclic antidepressants, ecstasy and oxycodone.
If a quick at-home test suggests that drugs may be present, parents can send the sample to a laboratory for additional testing.
Test results are qualitative, indicating if a particular drug may be in the urine, but not how much is present.
Chairman of TOCCALife.com (Ticker Symbol: TLIF) Tyler Cornell was excited to hear this news, “This industry is so different than most. The more people get involved the better it gets for society. It may be a great example of John Nash’s economic theory of capitalism and competition. I’m extremely happy to see many of us taking proactive efforts to increase prevention while minimizing the drug epidemic’s future devastation of our country.”
